Utah Relocation Information

Flag of Utah State seal of Utah

Utah is bounded by Idaho and Wyoming on the north, by Colorado on the east, by Arizona on the south, and by Nevada on the west. Utah is the 13th largest state by area, and with a population of 2.2 million is the 34th most populous state. Major industries in Utah include oil, natural gas, mining (coal, copper, iron ore, silver, gold), steel-making, farming (cattle, sheep, dairy products), and tourism (especially skiing). Utah was admitted to the Union as the 45th state on January 4, 1896.

Approx. 60% of state residents are adherents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which represent less than 50% of the population in urban areas and over 90% in rural areas. The nickname of the state of Utah is "The Beehive State". Its origin may relate to the statement in the Book of Mormon that the Jaredites carried "with them Deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee" (Ether 2:3). The Deseret News (Oct. 11, 1881) described the symbol of the beehive in this way: "The hive and honey bees form our communal coat of arms3;. It is a significant representation of the industry, harmony, order and frugality of the people, and of the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation." The name Utah is from the Ute Indians. Utah is world famous for its ski resorts in the Wasatch mountains, many within an hours drive of Salt Lake City. Other recreational opportunities include Zion National Park and Lake Powell.

Utah has several state taxes, including a state income tax, a state sales tax, and property taxes.
