Nevada is the 7th largest state, and with a population of approx. 2 million, is the 35th most populous state. Major industries in the State of Nevada include tourism, mining (gold, silver), and hydro-electric power. Nevada was admitted to the Union as the 36th state on October 31, 1864. The name of the State of Nevada is from the Spanish word meaning "snowcapped.". The nickname for Nevada is The Silver State, or The Sagebrush State.

Nevada has several state taxes, including a state sales tax, and property taxes, but has no state income tax.
